The cumulative pot of coffee I have in all probability consumed today isn’t proving to be an effective antidote to fatigue. Yes, I am a tad jittery, but my over-caffeinated bloodstream fails to lift the cerebral fog. The gray stuff is all muddled. Please forgive my relative incoherence.
Like many of you, I had a late night watching history unfold.
Regardless of your partisan leanings, you have to admit that the evening’s flood of tears and exuberant joy were extraordinarily moving. And I suspect that you, like me, prognosticated this day farther off into the future—in my case, a day when my nine-year-old was old enough to comprehend its magnitude.
But enough of my hackneyed, clichéd prose. Listen to WBUR’s Delores Handy Brown, who grew up in Jim Crow Arkansas and who, with moral power and clarity, defines last night’s significance for her personally and for us as a people:
