Phew. Another fundraiser has come and gone.
WBUR’s Steve Brown has some words of thanks here (you will need to scroll down to the comments section to read them). And thank you, Steve, for posting that, completely unprompted by yours truly.
On an unrelated note, all those shiny baubles I dangled in front of your collective faces failed to induce the feverish venting over WBUR’s website(s) I was after. Yes, there where a few hard-hitting responses over at Universal Hub, most especially by that site’s founder and blogger-in-chief Adam Gaffin, but for the most part my attempts at buying critiques of our website(s) largely fell flat. Still, a deal is a deal and the new media director and I will cull through the responses here and over at Universal Hub and select one lucky person to receive our grand prize (see the previous post in the event you forgot what that was).
This little call to action is to improve our service to you. And not, as others have implied, to dupe cheap labor out of unsuspecting listeners. Speaking for the defense is TedM who put it thusly over at Universal Hub:
Ken is a good guy. He is being upfront about what he is asking for, and what the rate for feedback is. And he’s trying to say, “hey, we’re open to hearing what you’d like to see.” You don’t have to design. You don’t have to fix. You just get to critique. And if you don’t want to, you don’t have to.
It’s actually one of the things that I like about the newer media.
TV and radio don’t tend to ask what you as a user might like. Instead, they used occasional focus groups. And look at how that’s turned out.
Thanks Ted, and thanks to all who participated in this little exercise.
And before I forgot, “On Point” speaks with Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos this Wednesday.
I feel another “Twittercast” coming on. Stay tuned.
